Interstate 90 is the main east-west road in New York state. For most of its length, it follows the New York State Thruway, though a small section in Albany is maintained by the Department of Transportation. The section in Albany was originally planned to run along US 20 through Pittsfield to East Lee, MA, but opposition rerouted I-90 to the Berkshire Spur instead. Aside from the section maintained by the DOT and a part of the Thruway in Buffalo, I-90 is tolled for its entire length across New York. County line signs are not posted on the Thruway.
