This page contains information about the roads and highways of New York. New York has two types of state highways: touring routes, which are the signed state highways (though the signage doesn't always conform to the official log due to municipal re-routes), and reference routes, which are short segments of highways maintained by the state or roads otherwise known only by a name (such as the parkways). Maintenance of state, US, and sometimes even interstate (in the case of NYC) highways is sometimes transferred to counties and cities, with varying degrees of signage of the routes; these portions are easily identified by the lack of reference markers on them and sometimes have county route shields posted on the road. Information on county routes is available on the local highway inventory.
