NY 85 runs from the hamlet of Rensselaerville to I-90 in Albany. It is the main route through the hamlet of Slingerlands and the Town of New Scotland. The Slingerlands Bypass was first built from Krumkill Road to Washington Avenue and later extended to New Scotland Road at what is now Maher Rd, at which time it became part of NY 85. The bypass was proposed to extend west to the intersection with NY 85A; instead, an at-grade bypass with roundabouts was built west to NY 140 in 2007. NY 85 was also proposed to extend north to I-687; the I-90 interchange was built with a stub and a loop ramp (since removed) to what would have been NY 85 north to facilitate this.
